What Happened Today in the ’90s

July 18th, 1991: Lollapalooza debuts in Chandler, Arizona. It marks the very first stop for the newborn touring festival that Perry Ferrell put together.  The hot temps caused NIN’s gear to overheat and fail. Backstage, tempers flared in Jane’s Addiction and a fight ensued. At the end of the night, Perry Ferrell told MTV, “I kind of feel like I started this thing, so if it sucks, really, it’s on my shoulders.”

30 years later and the festival has become a 4 day annual event in Chicago every August. This year’s lineup will play to a sold out crowd with Foo Fighters, Limp Bizkit, Post Malone, and Journey slated to perform.
